To promote young scientists in the Euregio, the Aachen Centre of Compentence for Medical Technology – AKM e.V. awards the AKM prize 2010 for contributions from the field of medical technology.
The prizes will be awarded for contributions from the field of medical technology (also in combination with biosciences), preferably contributions that are based on interdisciplinary cooperation. The work must not be older than two years and has to be an independent achievement of the applicant.
First prize: 3000 Euro; Second prize: 1000 Euro; Third prize: 500 Euro.
A summary of the scientific work (max. 10 pages) in German or English, a curriculum vitae and a declaration of the independent authorship are to be submitted to AKM e.V. by 30.09.2010.
Criteria: Interdisciplinarity, grade of innovation, application orientation, scientific method, clarity of the presentation and objective of the work.

The cluster Virtual Life of the Leuven Center for BioScience, BioEngineering and BioTechnology (BioSCENter) aims at developing and applying data-analytical and theoretical methods, mathematical modelling and computational simulation techniques to understand, predict and ultimately optimise and control dynamic processes that take place in living systems at multiple spatial scales and levels of organisation. The long term objective is to construct in silico models of complete living systems, from micro-organism to plant, animal and human.
The objective of this workshop is to give an overview of some recent developments in mathematical modelling of biological systems.

The seminar "Launching medical devices and associated software: an integrated approach?", is organised in collaboration with Leuven.Inc on Tuesday 12 May 2009. (NOT 2009-03-10 as pre-announced earlier)Full programme and registration via Leuven.Inc : Launching medical devices and associated software: an integrated approach?
This one day program has been specially designed to offer an integrated approach for successfully launching medical devices and associated software. Full programme and registration form via Leuven.Inc : Launching medical devices and associated software: an integrated approach?
Bringing medical devices/software to the market requires a thorough understanding of the regulatory requirements and process and if you have an innovative technology, reimbursement systems need to be controlled. Furthermore, patent protection is often an absolute must for medical devices as they can give the medical device a period of exclusivity which justifies the costly and R&D intensive development of the device.
The speakers will introduce you to the current status and practitioner insights in patenting, regulatory aspects and reimbursement of medical devices and associated software. Each topic will be illustrated with a company case study.
